Fall Issue 1999
A guide into the many sides of Spirituality.

Our mission:
Is to provide a voice for any and all, that hold the tenet "Harm None" close to their heart, to discuss the varied paths of spirituality. Over the years, we have offered a number of articles that have dealt with the various branches of Goddess-based religions. While we have been very proud of our work, we feel that there are many other voices that deserve to be heard. That is why we are pointing our sights not only from a polytheistic, but a monotheistic point of view.

WHATS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT ENERGY?

First you will ask,"What is the big deal about energy?" There are many forms of energy; light, heat, motion, and electrical. These are all forms that we see, and use almost every day. With electrical there is ac, dc, and static. Both ac and dc need continuity. However static does not. So far in physics static is the only form known that positive and negative can be separated and stored. The problem with static is that when positive and negative are brought close together, the discharge is almost instantaneous. The form of energy that I will be discussing is in some ways like static, but it can be discharged slowly. It is all around us. It is very abundant. It is easy to gather in and anyone can do it. So OK what is it good for? Healing for one thing, to charge and energize amulets or talismans. You can expand your aura to fill a whole room. You can change the feel of the room or even effect the way others are feeling. This can even be used to change reality or as a tool to control weather.

This is not the kundalini. This part of an ocean of energy that is all around us at all times. It is not good, it is not evil, it just is. Is a hammer good, or bad? No only the way it is used. It is a tool it is to be used. This has been called by many names; one of them was orgone. It is not something that will take years to learn how to collect and use. It will take only days to learn how to collect and put to use. However, you will be learning for many years how to do the collection better. For as you learn your body changes. It is as if you were using muscles that had never been used before. For the rest of your life you will be finding new ways to use it.

This is an exercise, so remember that when you first start do not do it too long. If you do you will get headaches. As this is done you will find that there is a burning feeling in your hands. Your palms may even feel sunburned. This is normal. Also you will experience a looseness of the bowels. The more intense the collection and the purer the energy the faster this will occur. But once you have reached this level, you should not feel this again until you have reached a higher level.

You will learn how long and hard that you can do this. As you progress this will change. So experiment, it is your body, and every one is different. When you were a baby there was a spot on top of your head; this was called a soft spot. This is the crown chakra and it is surrounded by six more. As you do the exercises, this spot and your palms are where you will feel the most change at first. Then as you become more able to move the energies you will even find a chakra on your tongue.

Lets begin with breathing. As you breathe, exhale all the air you can. When you inhale, inhale all the air you can. Dont carry this too far; stay comfortable. This is about energy. This is not about exploding your lungs, or passing out. We are not trying to raise the kundalini. We are doing this to make room for the energy. As you inhale, with your mind pretend that you have an extra hand inside your body. This hand reaches above your head and pulls down the energy there. If you dont feel it at first, just pretend. You will start to feel it. Some people need to learn how to feel the energy, because they do not know how . This you will also learn. I was 23 years old before I could tell the color of peoples eyes. I just did not know what to seek. Now it is simple. You will need a word to say inside you head as you inhale. The word that I use most is "huuuuu", drawing out the vowel. You may use most any word that ends in a vowel and vibrates in the throat. The ones that seem to work best are a, o, and u. It also helps to say this word on the exhale as you are directing the energy. Do not use the word on the exhale if you are trying to build up the energy inside of yourself. This will let it flow out of you.

To direct the energy on the exhale say your word and exhale all the air you can. Push the energy up from inside of yourself and down your left arm into your palm. There is also a chakra in each palm. What I like to use is a quatz crystal. This is a very good receiver and battery. I also like to have a piece of hematite in the right hand. This acts as a mirror and tends to reflect back any energy trying to flow down the right arm.

It helps if the crystal and your hair are clean. The best way to clean the crystal is to be set out in the rain. Shampoo works for the other. There are other ways to clean things which we will get into later. As you charge the crystal, it will probably start to feel warm. The edges may start to feel sharp like they are trying to cut. This is the crystal vibrating from the energy. You will start to feel a pulse in the crystal (it is not your pulse). Others will feel it also. Oh, it helps if the point of the crystal always points up in your right hand, and in the same position. It is like magnetizing something if you change the way it is laying, one charge will interfere with another.

Now the exersize. Exhale then inhale while saying your word inside your head. Reach up and pull the energy down inside of your body. Inhale all the way and try to fill your body all the way down to your toes. Then as you exhale, gather the energy in your body. Push it down your left arm to your palm, into the crystal. Say your word out loud ( this can be under your breath). Keep repeating this until you can feel the pulse. If you start to feel dizzy stop for a while. After the crystal is charged wrap it in silk or a new clean white cotton cloth.

This can be used on any chakra. Learn to do this in any position i.e., laying, standing, sitting , etc. To pull the energy back out of the crystal, place it in the right hand point down. The reason is because the body has a right and left energy swirl of its own. On the inhale draw from the crystal instead of over head. Push the energy where you wish it to go. If this energy is to help with a cold or flu then keep it inside. As you get better at feeling the energy, you will find that when you enter some stores, you will feel anger or agitation. This is the energy of the people. The more people that go through this store that are affected by the angry energy will add more. Soon the store just feels mean. If you know it is there, you can pull this energy in and hold it. Feel the emotion that you want to change it to. Slowly as you feel it change, release it or use it. You will see a change in the people around you. If you have a business you can change it to make people feel welcome and want to buy from you.

Now you see how you can pull the energy form things. You can now clean rings and such, and put the feel of the energy back in the items you wish to have charged.

Everyone is trying to become balanced. How can you be in balance when the things around you are not? There are not many choices. One, you can leave. However, that does not help because everywhere you go things are out of balance. Two, you can put up barriers but that is a constant drain on your energies. Three, you can change your surroundings by cleaning what is out of balance. Check your clothing, your jewelry anything that you might wear. Rings and watches are made of metal which is a great place to store energy. Unfortunately, they do not care what type they store. Any argument, fight, or highly emotional happening contains a great amount of released energy. Therefore, any such artical needs frequent cleaning.

The sink where you do you dishes, the tub where you take your bath. Now I am going to use an old and worn out word: vibes. Have you ever felt vibes? Well, if not, reading any of this will do you no good. When feeling vibes you are not only feeling the energy, but also the color. When it comes to the energies, the feeling and color relate to each other. As I was saying earlier, you can take in energy and change it. You can do this by slowly forcing the energy to feel the way you want. Or you can think of the color change, feel the color. When it is what you want, you will know it when it is right. Then you can either release it or place it in something.

In cleasing and charging a thing with the feeling of love you have in effect blessed that thing. Oh, just as an off-hand comment, if you charge your soda pop it will lose most of its fizz. But it does help to charge your food with good feelings. It will taste better to you and others. Also, it will be healthier for you. As you do this you are also removing bad vibes (energy). Everyone knows that vibes are vibrations. They also know that some vibrations are good and some are bad. Just think of microwaves. To cook food it is great but exposing your cells to them causes a lot of damage.

Have you ever been around a small child that was sleepy but would fight sleep? Well here is a little trick. There is nervous energy in the child. If you will place your hand above the head, feel for the string of energy. When you find it start to wind it around your fingers. You will see the child calm down and go to sleep. The child should sleep well. Once you understand how this works, you can do it to other people from a distance.

Experiment, you will be suprised. Through this you have also gained some energy even though you will need to change it. It is the same trick with anger, or fear. As you decrease the amount of energy behind the emotion, the emotion lessens.

MAGICKAL SPACE : THE GROTTO

By: Linda Yarusso

When it comes to magickal space, I have the most wonderful place outdoors on my property, not far from my house.

I live on a private dirt road in the middle of the woods. The road is actually an old logging road. In the back of my house, on the side of the property I have a huge, hand-built stone Grotto, complete with flagstone floor, reflecting pool in an altar, all made of stone. It's about 15 feet high. Flanking either side of the entrance are circular stone planters filled with flowers and attached to the structure. It is surrounded by rambling roses, primroses, irises, lilies of the valley, and a stand of hawthornes. Behind it, just at the start of the treeline, is a little streamlet. The entire outer surface area of the Grotto is covered in Wisteria. When in bloom the fragrance is so heavenly, the bees droning from blossom cluster to blossom cluster, buzzing sonambulently. There is a hazel grove nearby, along with so many kinds of trees where the treeline starts running up the mountain, as to be too many to name. In front of the Grotto is my grove, consisting of several lines of fruit and nut trees. Windchimes hang from several of them, filling the air with the music the wind makes.

Hanging from the top of the Grotto at the entrance is a pewter and steel windchime, in a Celestial motif. The clapper is a sickle moon. The hanger is the sun and stars. Inside on the altar is a cast relief oil lamp of the Goddess as Spring Maiden. The Spring Maiden is the aspect of the Lady I assume in ritual and worship. I keep the sunken reflecting pool in the altar filled with water, season permitting. There is a vase for flowers, a seperate stone shelf for offerings, and a circular bas relief of the 4 elementals, and their points on the compass. The Grotto was originally built by the man who built my home some 50 years or so ago. That's why it doesn't raise an eyebrow with any of the neighbors...along with the fact that the luxuriant growth of the trees and the plants surrounding it keeps it a lovely treaured secret from most. The person who built it used it for a shrine to the Virgin Mary. Being a former Catholic, from many years ago, I'd like to think that the Grotto is now being used for its true purpose! Holding rites and rituals there, under the sky, the cathedral of the heavens, all times of the year is sublime. I hope I've been able to share a little bit of that magick with you!

The Deity Corner

The Morrigan (MORE ee gan) Irish/Celtic Goddess of War and sex. Her name means "the great queen".

I am the Morrigan, the Goddess of Battle and Destruction. I am a destroyer of only that which needs to be destroyed in order for something new and fresh, more alive and virtuous to appear. I obliterate corruption, tyranny, oppression, injustice, obsolete and despotic hierarchies, unfulfilling lifestyles, work situations and bad relationships so that better civilizations, better ventures and better relationships may take their place. A warrior must have the ability to destroy their negative traits, to destroy obsolescence, tyranny, corruption or oppression as needed. Destruction is a part of life, or nothing better would ever spring up, new and fresh. As the darkness of night is necessary to understand the brilliance of day, so destruction is to creation...

Phoenix McFarland "The Complete Book of Magical Names"

Lady Raven, fly! Black wings shadow falls over battle fields, sacred fields and bring the breath of Avalon, the peace of the west. We have tried, warrior maid, fought, we have died 'til the dolmens and groves have run red with our blood. Battle crone, are we lost as your standing stones fall? Do our own Wiccan ways go for naught? Morrigan, Morrigan. Do not cry Wiccan child, for your life or your ways. Know the peace of the grave is rest, not an end. To my ways be reborn, for the Craft never died, and my time comes again, I am the Morrigan, Morrigan. Lady raven, fly, black wing's shadow falls over city lights, jewelled nights and come to us from Avalon, come forth from the west. See my black feathered cape in the night, moonless night. Know my wing's shadow falls not to hide, but to protect. For each wise one who calls, never more shall they fall. And from Avalon I come again. Morrigan, Morrigan.

YOUR TRAVELS

by Linda Y.

The roads you travel lead to me, and end here at my door.
Where you can rest your weary head and make love to me once more.
Your destination is my heart, a place full of desire.
Where passion smolders night and day until you light my fire.
When you're here we join as one, and speech is not enough.
Sharing all we have to give, then parting, which is rough.
One day we'll live outside our dreams...you'll stay forever here.
I'll wake each day to hold you close, and keep you ever near.

SPRING CLEANING FOR THE HEART

There comes a time when we must clean out the closets of our life and heart so that we may have room for items that will enhance our life. Let's search the closets of our lives and make a trip to the wastebasket. Throw away any hatred that may be lurking there and be sure to toss jealousy, bad attitudes, dishonesty, complaints, sin, and hypocrisy. And don't forget to grab that pride that has been sitting in the corner and rotting. You've been holding on to it for too long, and it has been blocking blessings.

Before you finish, throw away that grudge you have been holding against someone.

There's room now to add love, honesty, forgiveness and kindness-not to mention thankfulness for all blessings.

Go on and make room for reverence and respect for your god and good and perfect gifts will come.

Stand back and look: Your life's closet is looking better, isn't it?

Take a moment today to do a little spring cleaning in your heart. Ask your god to come in and if she finds anything else that shouldn't be there, take it out so that you can live right!

Pass on .. this could be the day for that new beginning.

The time is now to live, love and laugh because tomorrow isn't promised to anyone.

OH, TO SUMMER'S PASSING

(To be sung to the tune of: "The Last Train to Clarksville" by the Monkees.)

It's the last day of summer
and I'm sitting here at home.
There's a chill in the air here
and I feel like I'm in Nome
but I'm alright.
Yes, I'm alright.

It's the last day of summer
and my thoughts are flying south
with the geese from the lakeside
Ouch! The coffee burned my mouth,
but Im alright
Yes, I'm alright.

It's the last day of summer
for tomorrow brings on fall
The leaves have been changing,
the piles in the yard are small
and I'm alright
Yes, I'm alright.

It's the last day of summer
in three months the fat man lands
In his red suit with his reindeer,
he'll put presents in our hands
I'm about as ready for that
as I am the overly hyped
Apocalypse.

I WANT TO BE A KID AGAIN

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of a 6-year-old again. I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks. I want to think M&Ms are better than money, because you can eat them. I want to play kickball during recess and paint with watercolors in art. I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day. I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, addition tables and simple nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know, and you didn't care. When all you knew was to be happy because you didn't know all the things that should make you worried and upset. I want to think that the world is fair. That everyone in it is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible...

Somewhere in my youth...I matured and learned too much. I learned of nuclear weapons, war, prejudice, starvation and abused children. I learned of lies, unhappy marriages, suffering, illness, pain and death. I learned of a world where men left their families to go and fight for our country, and returned only to end up living on the streets...begging for their next meal. I learned of a world where children knew how to kill...and did. What happened to the time when we thought that everyone would live forever, because we didn't grasp the concept of death? When we thought the worst thing in the world was if someone took the jump rope from you or picked you last for kickball. I want to be oblivious to the complexity of life and be overly excited by little things once again. I want to return to the days when reading was fun and music was clean. When television was used to report the news or for family entertainment, and not to promote sex, violence and deceit... I remember being naive and thinking that everyone was happy because I was. I would walk on the beach and only think of the sand between my toes and the prettiest seashell I could find. I would spend my afternoons climbing trees and riding my bike. I didn't worry about time, bills, or where I was going to find the money to fix my car. I used to wonder what I was going to do or be when I grew up, not worry about what I'll do if this doesn't work out...

I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and the loss of loved ones. I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind and making angels in the snow...

I want to be 6 again...
